Happy New [Y]-EARs

Happy New Years to you.  Happy New EARS to Tyler!

Tyler got his third and hopefully final set of PE Tubes on the Thursday after Christmas due to recurrent chronic ear infections.   He did AWESOME.  We skipped the Versed (aka goofy medicine) this time because he reacted so poorly to it the last time in the recovery room.  This meant that he had to go back into the OR all by himself.  We were warned that if we skipped the Versed, usually without it children get really scared and have to be held down on the table to be sedated, but we prepped Tyler a ton about how he was going to need to go with Dr. Thomas and breathe into a mask and be very brave.  Of course, he was perfect.

When we asked him after the fact, Tyler told us he just had to go blow up a green balloon (aka an anesthesia bag/valve/mask).  He said it smelled like the gas station.  When he woke up, he was so calm and normal (rather than a tasmanian crazy boy like he was after having Versed).  The procedure took about 15 minutes including recovery.   As soon as we left we were back in short stay.  They made sure he could keep down some juice and let us go after 30 minutes.  Here are some photos from the morning.

Rockin the PJs bright and early in short stay

Playroom

I was hoping he had graduated to the medium jammies which are green, but nope, still fit in the small pink ones :(

Mama Bear got a name bracelet and a mask.  She got to go into surgery and everything, as did blankey.

This is the pre-op room where we met the anesthesiologist.  Tyler thought it was really cool that he was in a crib.  He was really hungry by this point since he could not have anything to eat or drink, but he didn't complain once about it.

Immediately after surgery.  Totally awake and happy.  My sweet boy.

Ready to go
Bye Bye Hospital!
